Fires occur frequently in Australia during the fire season starting officially in December. You actually can see the traces of fires everywhere.

New life after a fire in a region of the Blue Mountains

In the Snowy Mountains there has been a big bush fire in 2003. The eucalypt trees have been first burned and black but with time sun and weather has bleached them. The result is a quite ghosty looking dead forest. Or actually - not really dead. New trees are growing from beneath, they just have not reached the same height of the old burned trees yet.

There are brochures and courses to teach residents how to prepare for the possibility of a bush fire.
